CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Entenon Wednesday observed how Americans are losing confidence inPresident Donald Trumpwhen it comes to managinginflation, an issue he promised to conclude on "day one" of his second term.
"Let me just state, this is a complete disaster!" Enten said to CNN's Jessica Dean.
Enten, referencing a collection of polls, pointed out that the president's net approval rating (approval percentage minus disapproval percentage) regarding inflation is currently in the "low" range among voters at -25.
"That's where the Little Mermaid is, and he's aligned with the Little Mermaid. That's how deep underwater he is regarding the issue that led to his election," Enten said.
Last year - in comparison to how voters perceived the then-Vice PresidentKamala Harrison inflation - Trump had a +9 net approval rating, according to Enten.
Enten's results came just after Dean raised the issuenew data showingthe cost of various items — such as ground beef, clothing, toys, and furniture — has gone up despite stable inflation, suggesting that Trump's tariffs are being transferred to buyers.
With the midterms approaching next year, Republicans are also experiencing a decline in public confidence regarding their handling of inflation.
Enten cited a new Fox News surveywhere the Democratic Party had a +1 net approval rating regarding inflation, marking a significant shift to the left in comparison to the GOP's +13 net approval rating in the same survey from October 2022.
"The bottom line is, the anger voters have towards Donald Trump regarding inflation is now affecting House Republicans," he said.
He mentioned, inflation continues to be the primary concern for most Americans,as per a poll conducted by Marquette University Law School that was published last month.
"Voters in repeated polls claim that Donald Trump has lost focus on the main issue of the moment, which is inflation," he stated.
He later added, "I can assure you, Jessica, if these numbers remain as they are now or appear on Election Day 2026, there's absolutely no chance the Republicans will be able to keep the House of Representatives."
