Sadiq Khan Earns More Than PM as London Mayor's Pay Hits £170k

London mayor Sir Sadiq Khanhas received a £5,000 salary increase and now makes more than the Prime Minister, as disclosed today.

After receiving a salary increase, Sir Sadiq now earns £170,282 for his position managing the city.

This is nearly £1,000 more than the £169,344 which SirKeir Starmer earns for being PM.

Sir Keir receives an annual income of £93,904 for his role as a Member of Parliament, in addition to £75,440 from his position as a minister.

Similar to other recent prime ministers, Sir Keir does not take his entire ministerial allowance of £80,807.

It is believed that Sir Sadiq, who is currently in his historic third term at City Hall, is the highest-paid politician in the UK.

John Swinney, the leader of Scotland, has recently turned down a salary increase, maintaining his income at £135,605.

The leader of Wales, Eluned Morgan, receives an annual salary of £157,624, whereas Andy Burnham, the Labour mayor of Greater Manchester, is paid £118,267.

Sir Sadiq appreciated the salary increase even though Londoners faced severe disruptions due to Tube strikes last week.

A Labour party member, currently overseeing Transport for London, had previously pledged that there would be 'no strikes' on public transport if he were elected as mayor.

He has also come under examination regarding crime levels in London throughout his time as mayor, along with his performance in housing development within the city.

Susan Hall, the Conservative candidate who lost in last year's mayoral race, stated to the Mail regarding Sir Sadiq's salary: 'If he were on performance-based pay, he would owe Londoners a lot of money!'

The City Hall stated that Sir Sadiq received a 3.2 percent increase in his salary after an 'independent review' conducted last year.

The Evening Standardfirst disclosed his salary increase after it was secretly listed on the Greater London Authority website as part of Sir Sadiq's official biography.

A representative of Sir Sadiq stated: 'After an independent assessment conducted last year, the Greater London Authority has established a consistent procedure to decide on yearly salary increments for the mayor and London Assembly members throughout this term.'

This guarantees that any possible salary rises are assessed in an unbiased, equitable, and straightforward manner, connected to the local government's wage agreement.

This is separate from the mayor and the GLA, aligning with established procedures.

After this year's agreement ends, the mayor and Assembly Members have been granted a 3.2 per cent pay raise by the local government.
