National Guard forces deployed by President Donald Trump will be conducting round-the-clock patrols in Washington, D.C., as stated by the White House.
Since President Trump activated the National Guard, only a limited number of federal officers have been observed across the nation's capital over the past two days — however, the White House claims this figure and their presence will significantly increase beginning on Wednesday evening.
Defense officials have stated that up to 800 National Guard members may eventually be sent to Washington, D.C.
The White House reported that 43 individuals were arrested last night, whereas 22 were detained the previous night.
Security forces are assisting Washington, D.C. police officers, who were placed under federal authority by President Trump this week.
A military spokesperson informed Scripps News on Wednesday that National Guard forces will remain deployed until the "mission is complete" — a goal that is quite vague.
President Trump stated that he intends to work with Republican legislators to prolong the National Guard's mission as he sees fit.
We're going to require a crime bill that we'll be introducing. It will initially apply to D.C. It's almost — we'll present it as a very positive example. And we'll be seeking long-term extensions, because you can't have just 30 days," said President Trump. "I don't want to declare a national emergency. If I must, I will. But I believe the Republicans in Congress will approve this largely without opposition.
It remains uncertain whether there is sufficient backing in Congress to obtain an extension, which could necessitate the support of Democrats to be approved.

Scripps News observed an increased police presence from several federal agencies in Washington earlier Wednesday, but did not notice much indication of the National Guard.
In one instance, multiple police departments were involved in a single traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle later told Scripps News that the reason for the stop was related to a registration problem with the car. The driver mentioned that they were repeatedly told that the extensive police presence was a deliberate act meant to be seen.
Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has maintained a relatively moderate approach with President Trump, yet has noted that his actions are without precedent and represent a violation of standard governmental practices.
