The most recent PlayStation State of Play featured nearly 30 minutes of gameplay footage for 007 First Light, although we have already viewed it and discussed with developer IO Interactive.
There have been many James Bondgames throughout the years and although there are differing opinions on the quality of theEAtitles from the early 2000s, it is reasonable to state that the sole true classic has beenGoldenEye 007on the N64. Although that game was influential, it has not stood the test of time, and it's questionable how much the Bond elements enhanced the experience, beyond serving as a pleasant facade for enthusiasts.
Trying to copy every part of a film into a video game is nearly impossible, since movie action scenes and dialogue function very differently from in a game. You only need to look at the so-called cinematicMetal Gear Solidgames, featuring their lengthy and non-interactive cinematic sequences, orIndiana Jones and the Great Circle, whose action sequences are vastly different from the films, to witness evidence of that.
As the archetypal action series, the Bond films are more challenging than most, as Bond is not invincible and much of his espionage involves unrealistic gadgets and depends on talkative villains and overly easily influenced women. GoldenEye 007 certainly didn't have much of that, but most fans already believe that if any developer is going to capture Bond accurately, it'll beHitman creator IO Interactive.
We observed approximately 30 minutes of live gameplay for 007 First Light at Gamescom last month, but it seems this is the content being displayed this week as part of a special PlayStation event.State of Play, it's not very useful to elaborate on it here.
Even though we strongly recommend viewing the footage personally, in brief, it features a younger, new version of Bond working alongside several other top spies, each with different levels of expertise. The antagonist is a former 009 agent trying to orchestrate a coup in the UK. Naturally, uncovering this leads to sneaking into lavish parties in stunning locations, with the demo beginning with a drive (in a Jaguar XJ) through some picturesque European mountain areas.
Bond is instructed to remain in the car, which he does for approximately 30 seconds before choosing to explore a suspicious porter and attempting to deceive his way into the event. At this stage, the connections to the Hitman series become very apparent, with a comparable graphic style and objectives. Bond is given multiple choices on how to gain entry, such as diverting guards' attention to climb up a drainpipe.
